Basically the trick is to get the layline to the Fernando de Noronha just right.
If you overshoot (go to far east) you will have troubles to get back the lost miles with increased boatspeed due to more open angle.
But even more problematic is to go to far west, miss the layline and end up making a tack with negative vmg after the wind shifts to SE.
So I think leaders did a good job, but the western guys might be in a bad spot if they don't reposition more to the east.
Also note the very bad tack David did (where he lost some of his lead). Might be fatigue or some freak cloud formation.
The 1000 UTC position showed the top 6 guys all on starboard tack, 1600 UTC position shows the first 15 or so protos on the same tack heading +/- 215 degrees. Will be really interesting if the two most western guys of the top 6 - Antoine and Lucas - have to tack east. That could give Joerg a better position back to 4th.
